The 74HC4050D is a hex buffer with over voltage tolerant inputs. Inputs are overvoltage tolerant to 15V which enables the device to be used in high-to-low level shifting applications.
The CD74HC4050M96 is a high speed CMOS logic Hex Inverting Buffer fabricated with high-speed silicon gate technology. It has a modified input protection structure that enables these parts to be used as logic level translators which convert high-level logic to a low-level logic while operating off the low-level logic supply. The modified input protection structure protects the input from negative electrostatic discharge. This can also be used as simple buffers or inverters without level translation. The CD74HC4050M is enhanced versions of equivalent CMOS types.
