Product Overview

The VNQ500 is a monolithic device designed in STMicroelectronics VIPower M0-3 technology, intended for driving any kind of load with one side connected to ground.

 

Active current limitation, combined with latched thermal shutdown, protect the device against overload.

 

In the case of over temperature of one channel the relative I/O pin is pulled down.

 

The device automatically turns off in the case of ground pin disconnection.

What is a high side switch used for?

High Side Switches. eXtreme switch devices are NXP smart high side switches for automotive (12 V), bus/truck (24 V) and industrial applications. They belong to an expanding family designed to control, protect and diagnose various types of loads with enhanced precision in BCM, ECU or junction boxes.

 

What is the difference between low-side and high-side switch?

In a low-side switch, shown on the left, the load is between the power rail and the N-channel MOSFET doing the switching. In a high-side switch, shown on the right, the load is between ground and the P-channel MOSFET doing the switching.

 

What are high-side drivers used for?

Low-side drivers have been widely used in engine and transmission control since the 1980s, but the widespread adoption of high-side drivers is fairly new. Initial use was in body functions such as electric set motors or mirrors, but more recently the main factor has been the expansion of LED lighting.
