Can a sit5356 clock be factory-programmed?

SiT5356 can be factory-programmed to any combination of frequency, stability, voltage, and pull range. This programmability enables designers to optimize the clock configuration while eliminating the long lead time and customization costs associated with quartz TCXOs where each frequency is custom built.

 

What is TCXO used for?

A TCXO is a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator that is used whenever particularly high stability within a variant temperature environment is required, i.e. when the frequency deviation of the oscillator must be minimal over its entire operating temperature range.

 

What is OCXO and TCXO?

Both TCXOs (Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillators) and OCXOs (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillators) are crystal oscillators whose oscillation frequency does not vary as much at high temperatures or when the temperature fluctuates.

 

Why use a crystal instead of an oscillator?

An oscillator is an amplifier circuit, with feedback so that it oscillates, and a "frequency determining element" that keeps it oscillating at the desired frequency. A crystal can be made for a precise frequency, and it will drift very little if the temperature or stray capacitance changes.
