1N4148 Description

A diode is a device which allows current flow through only one direction. That is the current should always flow from the Anode to cathode. The cathode terminal can be identified by using a grey bar as shown in the picture above.

For 1N4148 Diode, the maximum current carrying capacity is 300mA it can withstand peaks up to 2A. The speciality of this diode is its fast recovery time of 8ns at a forward current of 10mA, hence this diode is used in places where fast switching are involved.

The 1N4148 is fabricated in planar technology, and encapsulated in hermetically sealed leaded glass SOD27 (DO-35) packages.

  • Is 1n4148 a Schottky diode?

First 1N4148 isn't Schottky diode. It's true it is a switching diode (fast) but not Schottky.

  • What is a switching diode used for?

A switching diode is suitable for switching a small signal of up to 100 mA, acting as a rectifier. In contrast, a rectifier diode is used for AC line rectification (from alternating current to direct current). Switching diodes are designed to handle a voltage of less than tens of volts.

  • What do 4148 and N in diode 1N4148 mean?

XNXXXX, this is the representation of semi-conducting bulk components of the American Standards Association. XXXX represents the model number, usually a string of numbers.

N means PN junction. The number in front represents the number of PN junctions. For example, 1N4148 means that it has only one PN junction (ie diode), and 4148 is the model number. Similar to 1N4007, 1N4734 and the like are diodes.

2N means that there are two PN junctions, which are triodes or field effect transistors. For example, common 2N3904, 2N2222 and the like are triodes. 2N5515 is a field effect tube (N-channel JFET)

  • How do I know if my diode 1n4148 is broken?

  1. Identify the positive and negative poles of the 1n4148 diode, one end with a white line is the negative pole, and the other end is the positive pole.
  2. Set the knob on the multimeter to the on-off capacity position, and insert the red and black test leads into the correct position of the multimeter.
  3. Connect the red test lead to the anode of the diode and the black test lead to the cathode. Then observe the reading, if it overflows (that is, it shows 1), the diode is broken. If there is a reading, exchange the test leads. If there is a reading but not overflow, the diode is broken.
  • What is the difference between IN4148 and LL4148?

LL4148 usually refers to the glass sealed cylindrical LL-34 package (SMD, no leads).

1N4148 usually refers to DO-35 glass seal, axial pin, plug-in. It can be braided or in bulk.
