What are the applications of capacitors?
The application of capacitors is various, for example, they can be used in direct circuit switching, coupling, bypass, filtering, tuning loop, energy conversion, control and so on. This part introduces the wide use of the capacitor. Capacitors are widely used in electronic circuits for blocking direct current while allowing alternating current to pass. In analog filter networks, they smooth the output of power supplies. In resonant circuits, they tune radios to particular frequencies. In electric power transmission systems, they stabilize voltage and power flow.

What is a capacitor?
A capacitor (also known as a condenser) is a two-terminal passive electrical component that stores energy electrostatically in an electric field. Practical capacitors come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they all have at least two electrical conductors (plates) separated by a dielectric (i.e., insulator). Thin metal films, aluminum foil, disks, and other materials can be used as conductors. The 'nonconducting' dielectric increases the charge capacity of the capacitor. A dielectric can be made of glass, ceramic, plastic film, air, paper, mica, and other materials.
